I definitely had a great time at Dining With Compassion for Oakland Veg Week. We discussed everything from race and food to lifestyle choices and judgement. I connected with some awesome people and those people were in turn able to network within the group - SUCH a win-win!

If ya missed it, have no fear. My next event will be on Saturday, June 11th at 1pm at Lake Merritt. We'll discuss the book The Happy Vegan by Russell Simmons. Grab the book and join us by the lake. For more information, inbox me on Facebook, Instagram or via e-mail.

I'm so excited that this week is Oakland Veg Week! I'm even more excited that I'm hosting my own event on Friday featuring Tracye McQuirter's book "By Any Greens Necessary." This book inspired and pushed me along during my journey and it's a pleasure for me to facilitate a thought provoking discussion concerning the ins and outs of plant based living for EVERYONE, not just the "lucky" few that have money, celeb status or a garden in their backyard.

If you're in the Oakland area on Friday, be sure to register, stop by and kick it with us. You'll enjoy great food at Souley Vegan and even better conversation with the Oakland Veg Fest crew!

Hope to see ya soon!

Mother, MAY I?

Happy May Sweet Potatoes!

This is a great month to honor our Grandmothers, Mothers, Mother-Figures, Mother Earth and the Mother of the Catholic Church - my girl Mary. Yep, I'm Catholic and I love Mary! She had no idea what was in store for her yet she answered the call of God.

Can I confess something? I feel like I'm just coming into my own with my religion and it's a very calming and peaceful thing. Many (especially in the vegan community) run from religion for the sake of being spiritual and free. I get it, if it feels more like dogma than liberty I can understand why you would run. But when it feels like peace because you are resting on the prayers of all your Mothers, you will indeed run back to your religion.

I'm not a theologist nor am I Sandy The Sinless, but my faith has saved my life many times over.  This month I dedicate my posts to Mother Earth, all of my Mothers and Mary - the cradle of the world.

"Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6
Thanks Mom. :-)
